Makeup Conturing and highlighting

So since Kim K  Posted a picture of her self where her make up artist was contouring her face using makeup . I see more people doing it. Even my self lately .
I have seen videos  where they use a few different thinks and do it a couple different way . Its seems like it a "New" thing but No.
Make up artist have been doing it a long time . I'm going to go over the FYI's on this .

  • Contouring creates a sense of balance, adding definition to your makeup with color.
  • Contouring with makeup is usually applied on the temple area, nose, eyes, and chin areas.
  • You can use a cream or liquid contouring makeup product, however powder or mineral powders give a smooth, satin finish and are easier to blend.
  • Contouring is to Slim, Highlight is to enhance.

This month I will be sharing more information on this subject like
  • Products need
  • Brushes vs sponges
  • powder vs liquid
  • what shape your trying to achieve
  • video on how I contour my face
  • doing make up on someone else.
  • When to do it !
  • Brands I like.
there is a difference between everyday make up and going out makeup. so Ill also show that . I am planing to break this up into YouTube vlogs and blogs . with post Twice a week Sundays and Wednesdays

Life right know .. Fall is here

Well yes, it been a long time, this is my take two on this blog posting.
This summer my hair color went lighter, well about a level 6. It’s strange because I got a lot of complements, well as that I thought!!. I recently went back to dark because honestly I hated the up keep on it so I decided to do Rusk 5CH and 4 NW.  To get this nice dark reddish brown...Very nice!! And I the same people that like my lighter hair this summer told me that they like me with my darker hair. Okay..... Then why did you say you loved my summer hair > Go figure. Also this summer I decited to try to go vegetarian and drinking no beer. It’s going pretty well but the thing is now that winter is coming and my summer veggies are going to turn it to frozen veggies, Ugh. I lost about 15 lbs. doing it. I did not go vegetarian cold turkey; I still ate chicken and fish.  Mushrooms and zucchini are my favorite veggies, because you can season them with anything.  A couple downs sides of this is your intestinal system goes a bit crazy and I feel that my hair is falling out more. I’m going to see a dietician sometime this month, well thinking about it. I’ll make an apt after I’m done with this blog.

Ok now the Beauty Part: Fall I love fall because it easy to get dressed for. I did some shopping this week to get some good staple clothing for my fall wardrobe. I got a dark Levis jean jacket from TJ Maxx for 24.99, two sets of leggings drk.gray and black from Old Navy for $10 each
Then I went over to Vanity and got about 4 tops two long sleeves and two short sleeves for $35 right now they have my favorite short sleeve tops buy one get one free!! I need to go back next weekJ  I also went to the Salvation Army (Yes) and found some scarves in fall colors and only spent 2 bucks.   All I need now is maybe one more jacket, couple of tanks and that it I have 4 pair of boots in my closet, two of then I got the end of last winter on clearance from route 21.

Make up will be another Blog

Have a great fall eveyone !!

ten Commandments of curly hair Article in Allure

So I came across an article in Allure Magazine this week the title is Curls Gone Wild written my Lexi Novak . She gives us the 10 commandments of Curly hair.  I have natural curly hair and I the girl that straighten her hair all the time because I don’t like my curly frizzy hair, for the past year and half I’ve hated my curls so much I been doing a couple Smoothing Treatments the first was Thermafuse amino fusion smoothing treatment, and Bio ionic agave smoothing treatment that I don’t at the salon. I now also wear my hair shorter than before. So as my hair is growing out I am departing on going all natural and bring out my curls or keep on doing the treatment... But then I came across this article so maybe I’ll try this for a while.   This is a breakdown of the 10 Commandments of curly hair.

1 Wash your hair less-or not at all .(her words not mine) The best way to wash curly hair is with 100% sulfate-free shampoo this kind of shampoo is always good for your hair shampoos the have sulfates strips your hair as it cleans in that is why it lather . It also strips your hair color. The article also says to wash your hair with Conditioner witch is called Co-washing   umm something new... Another thing that I think that would work is Dry shampoo. TiGi has an awesome Dry shampoo that I use, since I have dark hair I like this one because it doesn’t get dusty looking in my hair.  Ill post a picture of it below

2 Condition, condition and Condition. This helps keep the curls moisturized. The curlier the hair the longer it for natural oils to travel from the scalp to the ends. That why your hair looks dry at the ends.

3. Style your hair when it’s sopping wet.  Hands off your bath towel.

4 Limit Alcohols. (jeje) Styling Products with high alcohol in them sucks out the moisture in your hair and can cause split ends

5.  Leave it alone. The more you manhandle your curls the more you ruffle the cuticle and it creates Frizz. In the article it says use a microfiber towel to dry your hair and blot.

6. Don’t blow dry without a diffuser.   I did go to sally and this week they have a universal Diffuser for 12 buck and it collapses for easy storage.

7. Throw out your brush.  Wide tooth combs are awesome

8. Always get a dry cut..  Ok as a stylist I can go both ways with is.  I cut a lot of my curly hair clients wet because I am using a razor and if you cut your hair dry with a razor it will Explode your cuticle   no good .

9. Take down the heat.  This is good for ALL hair types

10. Switch to a silk pillowcase.  The article says that cotton soaks up the moisture in your hair causing it to frizz.

What would you do i

So I was given these seneros in a color class this week and I want to now what you would do and handle this.. keep in mind that this was written in the late 80s early 90s.

1. The client wants to cover obviously gray hair , but he is afraid to do so because he is not sure it will result in a natural look. Camouflaging the gray hair was suggested to him when he received a chemical wave.

2. The client wants to have even coloring results. Several shampoos after her double-processing retouch, the shafts and ends seemed to lose the toning shade. her former colorist said that the problem was the quality of her hair and so it could not be corrected. She was advised to chemically wave her hair so that the curl would hide the darker scalp area.

So 'What Would You Do'

Girls updo

Happy Sunday :) to day was a boring day for me. Nothing on tv today , so I got the girls in the show and decided to do updos on them.. So here is one ..........

What I did was a french braid starting on one side of her head and wrapping around the other side . Ignore the messy loop I fixed it after I took the picture.

the extra part of the braid I pined and tucked it under the braid.
I used a 1/2 in curling Iron and did spiral curls
Starting from the right side I twisted the curls and pined them useing hair pin not bobbie pins.
the end result.

Did I lose a friend or Gain a client ?

This is my dilemma should I feel badly or did I win this client fair and square.
So last week I had a sister in law of a friend call me asking if I can do I highlight retouch on her because her sister in law that did her highlights would not do it for her.  So without asking question I told her that I could do it at the school because I was busy at home and was not able to do it outside of school. She came in yesterday and her hair was a HOT MESS!!   There was a lot of under and over processing. I had an instructor come over and help me did the consultation. As we looked over her hair we could not figure how out how her hair was weaved. We informed her that we could try as best as we could to fix it. So as I was prepping her I was making small talk. She told me not to say anything to her in law about her coming in to see me.
So I was asking her on what had happened. She told me that she went over to my friend’s house and she was doing some one else’s hair and she asked her if she had time to do her hair. So she did them while the other person was processing.  She foiled her whole head in 30 min, this girl’s hair is really long I was surprised .When I was foiling her hair I could not find any kind of pattern there were spots where the highlighted parts were 2x2 inches thick.  I asked if she was trying to do peak a boos, she said no that she wanted it chunking but not THAT chunky. I tried my hardest to make it blend.  During all of this I did not say anything negative about the other “stylist”. By the time I was ready to start my last section we had an audience of instructor around us.  When we were at the bowl ready to tone her we could not figure out what to use because of all the different  levels in her hair so we decided on just 9N but I had be really careful about where I put the toner ,  cause we did not want the lighter levels to get violet.  So at the end all went well and she is very happy with the turned out.   She also told me that she will now just go to me and that she will follow me to the salon that will be at after graduation which is 30 minutes away from her.  So Did I gain a faithful client or will I lose a friend?

I am a Psycosmetolgist...

Ok, so last Wednesday at school we had a couple of guest speaker. They were from Matrix Spread the Love Campaign. Two were resent Cosmo grads one was from Omaha and the other one was from St Paul, and a Psychologist Dr Lou. He is now a public speaker for Matrix hair products. He was telling us how he was losing clients because their Hair dressers were giving them better advice. I think it true our client trust us washing their hair, cutting, perming, and coloring so why wouldn't they trust our advice. We touch them more then Doctors. When they sit in our chair we spend about an hour or more with them, we problem talk to them more than they do with their families. We are always with through everything, in good times and bad. Proms, weddings, baptisms, even Funerals. First thing we do is ask them how their days are going, then what they are up to this week. While you are wrapping their perms or foiling their hair you are talking to them about their family or they are asking about yours, and at the end you have started a relationship with them. When they first sit in your chair you might think that you have nothing in common with then and at the end you do.
I have this shampoo set lady that come to me every week. When I first met her the front desk lady told me that she was the cockiest lady ever and that she was never happy with anyone’s work. She sat down in my chair and I asked her how she was, she was complaining about the weather and that the humidity was not help her hair. So I did her consultation she was mad about repeating herself every time she comes in. So I draped her and took her to the Shampoo bowl, and washed her gray hair with So Silver Shampoo. She went back to my chair and sat down, when I came back with the rods she had this look on her face and I asked what was wrong. She was like "what in the world did you use in my hair", I told her about the so silver she had a smirks on her face. While I was setting her hair I was asking her about her family and her life. She had a plain Jane life. She was telling me about waiting for the Amazing Race to start up again. That is my favorite competitive reality show.  We finished her hair and as she was paying I went and got her coat and helped her put it on. The next couple of weeks she went to other student and was complaining as always. Well she came back to me last week she told me that she tried to re schedule with me and that I was booked at the time she needed. She was super excited to see me because the new season of the amazing race started again and she need someone to talk to about the show since her other friend did not like it . I Love my shampoo set lady she cracks me up every week..
When I first started Cosmo school my instucter told me that it only 25% of talent and 75% of personality for a customer to come back to you, Remember that...

We are Psy-cosmetoligist  your personaly make the money  not always your talent.

My back ground is in Photography and Insurance...yes what a combo RIGHT. I worked in insurance for over five years, and then my company lay off over 200 employees. I still do photography. I had wanted to become a Cosmo for a long time but having to work fulltime and taking care of a family I knew it would not work. After being laid off from a job that I loved, I worked for a couple temp agencies I realized that I wanted to work for myself.  I wanted a challenge not the same old things This March I will be turning 31, this time last year I got really depressed on turning thirty. I felt like I was not going anywhere I lived it jeans and t-shirts, no makeup, and hair in a ponytail. . I love reality TV and one of my favorite shows is “Tabatha salon take over” on bravo. Tabatha Coffey is my Idol. One day I was sitting around depressed and the show was one and I finally said that I was going to do it. So after the show was over I called the school and signed up. A year later her I am ….
